That's right! The Starcraft 2 Gaming League has opened up applications for season one. We have found a solid admin team to help us through this season and I think we're all pretty confident that this season will go well. We have made a few changes for the league, different from what I posted last week.
I'm sure some of you have noticed all the American flags in the standings section of the front page. Fear not, this does NOT mean we're accepting teams only from the USA. We will be focusing our league on the American server. All games in season one will be played on that server and that server only. We will accept any team originating from any country as long as their players can participate on that server.
The format of the league is what we call 'NGL' format. It is used in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne leagues currently and I'm hoping to bring it into the SC2 scene. I am confident that it will do well in SC2 and I am confident that everyone will be happy with how it works. The details of our format can be found in the
SGL Rules and Procedure section of the forum.
How will I ensure success? Well I can promise you that I will go the entire season, and future seasons, working to my full potential. I've invested a lot of time in this program already and I'm not backing out now. I have prior league experience in Warcraft III both as a player and a league administrator. I currently play for the WC3 team, Nightmare Gaming, and was an admin for the Internation eSports League(IEL) until they closed last season. This league
will be successful and we
will complete season 1 with the viewers and teams wanting another season.
It is, as of this moment, unclear of just how many teams the SGL will be accepting into the qualifiers. With the SC2 league scene being
very young, it's hard to tell just who the high calibur teams are, and how well they will do comparing to the other registered teams. I will say however, the maximum number of teams we will let in is 32, it just all depends on the amount of applications we receive and the amount of teams that seem to be genuinely interested. There will be 10 people accepted into the regular season and I cant wait to see who gets through the qualifiers.
So how can YOUR team participate in the Starcraft 2 Gaming League's first season? It is required that the team leader, or manager, fill out the SGL qualifier application which can be found
here, to the SGL email, which from here on out is, SGLeague@live.com. Now I understand that we have a very complex application, but there are only a few teams in SC2 at this time that have a reputation with good players and managers. Do everything you can to fill out the application and if you cant answer some questions that's fine. You will receive a reply via eMail whether your application has been accepted or if there is something important on the application that you did not complete or completed inaccurately. The 'Applications Received' list will be updated every 5 hours.
Registration for the qualifiers will close August 16th at 24:00 EST.
As of this moment unfortunately there is no prize money. I do not want to lay down any pocket money because to me the point of a first season is to test the waters and see how things go. We will be looking for sponsors throughout the season in order to get prizes for season two. We encourage all teams to still apply first because as one of the first SC2 leagues, every bit of experience as a team counts.
A very long post, for a very big future. For those of you who are still reading, I am finally finished. However I encourage ANYONE whether it be a player or manager, to contact me if you have any questions. My forms of contact are as follows:
